Watch: Meet Nathan Thomas
Most people enter college after finishing high school. Nathan Thomas started taking college classes when he was only 10.
The Florida scholar continued moving through school at an extraordinary pace. He earned an associate degree in mathematics at 14, completed a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at 16 and earned his master’s degree by 18.
Then, he returned to the classroom in a completely different role.
At 18, Thomas began teaching an engineering course at Miami Dade College. His students included people close to his own age.
That achievement earned him official recognition from Guinness World Records as the youngest male professor on record.
Thomas was not simply given a title. He was responsible for teaching students how to program in C, a computer language commonly used in engineering and technology.
His academic journey began years earlier through dual enrollment. Thomas attended Miami Dade College while he was still a child before transferring to Florida International University.
In 2021, FIU recognized the then-16-year-old as its Outstanding Undergraduate in Electrical Engineering. At the time, he had already completed his bachelor’s degree and planned to continue his graduate studies.
Thomas is now pursuing another demanding field. According to WLRN’s reporting, he is studying law at the University of Miami and is interested in intellectual property, an area where his engineering background could become especially valuable.
His path is unusual, but the bigger story is not just how quickly he earned his degrees. It is what can happen when ability is recognized early, education remains flexible, and a young person receives room to move at the pace of their potential.
Thomas entered college at 10. Before turning 19, he was helping other college students complete their own journeys.
